Maximize Potato Yield…Profitability with Envita®
When Hurricane Helene barreled across the U.S. last fall, Mid-Michigan Agronomy’s Marshall, Michigan potato trials were hit hard.
“We took on six inches of rain from that event. You know you’re going to lose nitrogen with a six-inch rainfall event. Envita® actually buffered the time between that rainfall event and when we were able to apply more nitrogen. To me, Envita worked like an insurance program that made nitrogen available to the potato plants when it was needed,” says Mid-Michigan Agronomy owner and researcher, Rob Schafer.
Azotic Technologies Limited, National Sales Manager, Scott Bishop says the results were incredible.
“The results would have been great in normal conditions but were incredible given the rainfall event,” Bishop says. “On average, Rob saw a 75 cwt increase over grower standard across all of the Marshall, MI Envita treated chipping potato trials, and that average included trials where nitrogen had been reduced 10% and 20% compared to grower standard. We also saw significantly higher tuber numbers per acre on the Envita treated acres.
With more than 28 years of experience in potato research, Schafer has trialed a lot of products looking for solutions that help growers increase yield and quality. He’s cautious with the products he recommends to the growers he serves across the more than 30,000 acres of potatoes his agronomy business consults for in Michigan, Indiana, and North Carolina.
For Schafer, Envita stands out.
“Azotic® is really doing a great job of performing research across the nation to support the how and why Envita is working in multiple cropping systems,” he says. “Envita should be a product that growers are looking at to see if it’s a good fit for their operation.”
Schafer says that during fall and winter grower meetings, Envita came up in many of his conversations, “Our growers know that our research is always looking at products that will help them improve quality and yield. They know to ask for that information,” he explains.
Nitrogen at the Right Time, Right Place
Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus (Gd) is a naturally occurring bacteria that, once applied, works to quickly enter the plant to form a symbiotic relationship. Once inside the plant, Envita spreads to the roots, new foliage, old foliage – everywhere it is needed, when it is needed.
Offered in both liquid and dry formulations, Envita SC is an OMRI certified liquid formulation, and, new in 2025, Envita WG delivers the same exceptional performance in a dry granule.
“We’ve applied in-furrow and foliar. Both were easy and the mixability is great. I haven’t found anything that it doesn’t mix with yet,” Schafer notes, adding that he has added Envita WG to his trial line-up in 2025. “Envita is typically a very easy addition to a grower’s existing program.”
